Trump-endorsed Rep. Andy Ogles of Tennessee has lost his Republican primary, NBC News projects, falling to a former state official in a primary season that has seen an unusually high number of incumbents lose renomination.

With 81% of the vote in, the Associated Press projects that Charlie Hatcher, the former state agricultural commissioner, defeats Ogles. Hatcher received 53.2% of the vote to Ogles’ 46.8%.

Hatcher is expected to face off against Columbia Mayor Chaz Molder (D) in November.

The district has become more Republican following Tennessee’s mid-decade redistricting and is considered to be a solid Republican seat, according to Cook Political Report.

Ogles has landed in hot water over the years over several controversies. Earlier this year, he said Muslims don’t belong in American society, said homosexuality has no place in America, a post he later deleted after blaming a staffer, and argued last year the federal government should revoke future New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s citizenship and deport him.
