Republican Rep. Andy Ogles (R) deleted a social media post on the second day of Pride Month declaring “homosexuality has no place in America,” after receiving fierce criticism, even from some members of his own party.

“Happy Nuclear Family Month,” he added in the since-deleted post, highlighting the recent designation by Tennessee lawmakers of June as “Nuclear Family Month”—defined as a household with “one husband, one wife” and children.

The condemnation of Ogles was swift and bipartisan.

“Homosexuality exists in America. In fact Andy, you have family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and constituents who are gay and lesbian,” New York Rep. Mike Lawler (R) responded.

“It doesn’t make them less than or somehow unworthy of being an American. What an absolutely idiotic statement to make,” added Lawler, who also called Ogles a “f*cking idiot” when asked about the post by TMZ.

“Bigots like Andy Ogles have no place in America,” House Democratic Whip Rep. Kathrine Clark responded. “Anyway…Happy Pride, everyone!”

Ogles has a history of making inflammatory comments on social media. In March, he posted that American Muslims are not welcome in the US, writing, “Muslims don’t belong in American society. Pluralism is a lie.”

Ogles also made several disparaging comments about New York City Zohran Mamdani (D), calling the first Muslim mayor “little Muhammad” and saying that he “needs to be DEPORTED.” This led Rep. Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) to file a resolution to censure Ogles.
