Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) said late Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham could be “loud and obvious, and sometimes even obnoxious” as he pushed for his priorities.

“As you know, I know Lindsey Graham was never kind and gentle about the priorities he had,” Scott said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday” with Gillian Turner. “He was loud and obvious, and sometimes even obnoxious, because he understood that he had the power of a microphone to make a difference, not for himself but for others.”

Scott praised Graham over his support for Ukraine, saying he prevented Russian President Vladimir Putin from creating “a Ukrainian genocide.”

“Lindsey Graham wanted to stand in the gap and say, ‘no, not on my watch. And he encouraged President Trump to be as invested as possible,” Scott said.

Graham had just visited Ukraine, where he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Friday.

“The hole that Lindsey Graham left in the Senate cannot be filled,” Scott said. “It will take many of us to step up to the plate and take on the responsibilities that he had from a global perspective.”

Graham died Saturday night “from a brief and sudden illness,” his office said in a statement. He was 71.

“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,” the statement said.

Donald Trump led tributes Sunday to “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known,” describing Graham as a “true American Patriot” in a Truth Social post.

“Lindsey was a true defender of freedom and of the values that make our world safer,” Zelenskyy said in a statement. “We were in constant dialogue, which I will miss,” he said, adding that “in recent weeks he worked on important initiatives that could help bring peace closer, including strengthening sanctions against Russia.”

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) said his saddened to learn of Graham’s passing.
