Attorney General Todd Blanche is dismissing the notion that the Justice Department is independent of the White House and suggesting it should operate at the president’s whim.

In a Wednesday appearance on the New York Post podcast, Blanche boldly declared that he works “for President Trump.”

“There was this misperception that there’s this separation and independence between the Department of Justice and the White House, and everybody likes to champion that, and they accused me of not suffering from independence,” Blanche said. “I don’t.”

Blanche, Trump’s former personal lawyer, was narrowly confirmed as attorney general after promising a few crucial Republican holdouts that he will not be a “yes man” and that he does not work for Trump personally.

But under Blanche’s leadership, the DOJ has refused to investigate questionable conduct by Trump and his family. Just last month, Blanche said he will not investigate Russian ties to Donald Trump Jr., even after a Putin-connected Russian oligarch paid for Trump Jr’s wedding.

On the other hand, the DOJ has launched an investigation into a longtime Trump target, Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar, just weeks before the election, breaking long-standing Justice Department traditions.
