FBI Director Kash Patel said Sunday that the bureau is getting involved following the death of Lindsey Graham (R-SC).

“Senator Lindsey Graham was a devoted public servant, a fierce defender of our nation, and a true patriot who dedicated his life to the people of South Carolina and the United States,” Patel wrote in a statement on Twitter.

There is no foul play suspected in Graham’s sudden passing, but Patel added in his statement, “The FBI is assisting local authorities and has made every necessary resource available.”

Graham died Saturday night ā€œfrom a brief and sudden illness,ā€ his office said in a statement.

ā€œSenator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period,ā€ Graham’s office added.

Paramedics responded to a call for a person suffering chest pains at the Capitol Hill home owned by Graham around 8:30 p.m. EMS audio later indicated CPR was in progress. But efforts to revive the 71-year-old were unsuccessful.

In the wake of the senator’s death, several prominent MAGA figures began promoting baseless conspiracy theories. These theories point to the timing of his passing, which came just one day after he visited Ukraine and had been pushing for tougher sanctions against Russia and Iran.
