Anti-immigration lawmaker, Rep. Brandon Gill, cut his Indian-American wife from a fundraising ad for his re-election campaign in Texas.

In a post on Twitter, Gill pushed back on accusations of racism, writing, “You can call me by any name you want. I just want my children to grow up in a country that they recognize.”

But one person was noticeably absent from the image accompanying his message: his Indian-American wife.

Gill is married to Danielle D’Souza, the daughter of Indian-born far-right commentator Dinesh D’Souza.

Despite this, Gill is a staunch opponent of immigration and multiculturalism, usually earning reminders of his wife’s immigrant roots.

“Immigration isn’t “good” just because it is legal,” he wrote in a March Post on Twitter.

The Texas lawmaker also told New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to “go back to the Third World” after he was pictured eating rice with his hands.

When several social media users reminded Gill that his wife may have grown up eating the same way, she responded by defending her husband’s racist attack.

“I did not grow up eating rice with my hands and have always used a fork.” she wrote on Twitter. “I was born in America. I’m a Christian MAGA patriot My father’s extended family lives in India and they are also Christian and they use forks too. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

D’Souza has also defended his daughter in the past when several social media users highlighted her Indian heritage to point out Gill’s hypocrisy.

“My daughter was born in Virginia, grew up in San Diego and met Brandon at Dartmouth,” he wrote. “He is now the youngest GOP congressman and endorsed by Trump.”
