Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) blasted Donald Trump for calling for the replacement of Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky.

On Saturday, Trump criticized Zelensky for not making a deal with Russia to end the war and called for him to be removed as president.

“I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does. And let me go a step further. If I were president, you wouldn’t have ever had that war. That war would have never started. There was no reason that war with Ukraine and Russia started. It started due to incompetence. It should have never started,” Trump said in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Bacon criticized Trump for bending the knee to Russian President Vladimir Putin and suggested that Trump is not up to the task of leading the free world.

“We need a President who is up to the task of leading the Free World,” Bacon wrote, adding, “Let’s be honest. Trump is and always has been weak on Putin.”

Bacon also responded, “It’s disgusting,” to a user who asked for comment on Trump calling for Zelensky to be removed as leader.

Bacon is retiring from Congress at the end of this term. He has been a vocal critic of Trump’s handling of Russia’s war in Ukraine, accusing the administration of showing a “blind spot” or “appeasement” toward Putin.
