California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is calling for Donald Trump to be removed from office after he suggested at a rally on Monday that Iran can destroy Los Angeles and San Diego.

Newsom told The Hill that Trump is “mentally ill,” adding, “TIME FOR THE 25TH!”

In a statement responding to Newsom, White House spokesman Davis Ingle said, “Gavin Newscum is the worst governor in America, and he also may be the dumbest.”

At a rally in Nebraska, Trump told supporters that he hoped to see a “tremendous victory” in the November midterm elections. He then suggested high prices due to the war with Iran were a “small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe”.

“They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego,” Trump added as the crowd cheered. “This is a very small price to pay, and it’s gonna be over with very soon.”

Newsom previously called Trump’s remarks “deranged and dangerous.”

“After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego,” Newsom added.

Other officials in California also slammed Trump’s remarks.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) said Trump’s remarks are “dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety,” while San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria (D) told Trump in his own statement to “keep our city out of your reckless war talk.”

The White House pushed back against what they call false reporting on Trump’s remarks.

White House Communications Director Steven Cheung also slammed the “media freakout,” claiming it is “not rooted in reality.”

“He was clearly stating U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn’t been stopped,” Cheung continued. “America is safer because of the President. Iran has no nuclear, no navy, no air force, and no money.”
