Despite starting a war with Iran, repeatedly threatening to annex Greenland, killing more than 100 children by dropping bombs on an elementary school in Iran, invading Venezuela, and lifting sanctions on Russia despite Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Donald Trump is insisting that he should have won at least eight Nobel Peace Prizes already, including this year’s award.

Former International Criminal Court (ICC) judge Navi Pillay was awarded the prize on Friday. Pillay also served as a United Nations high commissioner for human rights, defended Nelson Mandela and was the first non-white woman in South Africa to establish her own law practice. Last year, she chaired a UN commission that concluded Israel committed genocide in Gaza.

But Trump told a crowd of his supporters at a rally in Syracuse, New York, on Friday that he should have been given the award based on the false claim that he “settled eight wars.”

He doubled down in a post on Truth Social, this time attacking Pillay, claiming that “no one ever heard of her,” and that she “hates Israel.”

“This is the woman who received the Nobel Peace Prize over the Great United States of America, whose Representative, ME, settled eight Wars, and many other things,” he said in a post containing a photo of the 85-year-old Pillay. “I know nothing about this woman, and neither does anyone else! In fact, to the best of my knowledge, no one ever heard of her other than the fact that she, very obviously, hates Israel. I don’t know what the woman has done.”

“The United States of America, represented by me, as your President, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t,” he concluded the lengthy post. “This is an indelible stain on Norway, one that will never be forgotten. The Nobel ‘Peace’ Prize has been forever discredited by a handful of Radical Ideologues who are Anti-Democracy, and Enemies of Civilization!”

Trump was up again on Saturday, still griping about losing the prestigious honor.

“I settled 8 WARS, am close to ending or settling 2 more, got all of the Israeli hostages back, including the final 28, both living and dead, had hundreds of hostages, from countries all over the World, released and sent back home, won a war in Venezuela, and captured the violent dictator who so viciously ran that country, and stopped the number one state sponsor of terror, the Islamic Republic of Iran, from obtaining a Nuclear Weapon — AND MUCH MORE!’ he wrote. Yet, with all of that, I, or the United States of America, did not get the Noble (sic) Peace Prize.WOW!”

Last year’s recipient, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, gave Trump her award, prompting the Nobel Committee to say the prize was not officially transferred to him.

“The medal and the diploma are the physical symbols confirming that an individual or organisation has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize,” the committee said in a statement at the time. “The prize itself — the honour and recognition — remains inseparably linked to the person or organisation designated as the laureate by the Norwegian Nobel Committee.”
