Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-OH) was taken to a hospital on Sunday after a hit-and-run crash, her office said.
A spokesperson said Kaptur,80, was on her way to a church when the vehicle she was in as a passenger was struck.
“Congresswoman Kaptur is thankful for the quick actions of first responders from Toledo Police and Fire Departments who arrived promptly on scene, and the medical professionals helping to take care of those involved in the crash,” the statement from Rep. Kaptur’s office read.
“She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon,” it continued.
Toledo police indicated the injuries were not considered to be life-threatening. Law enforcement officials also said Kaptur’s black Ford Bronco was hit by a stolen car, according to Cleveland.com.
It is unclear what led to the crash or whether the driver, who fled the scene, has been located.
Kaptur, the longest-serving woman in congressional history, is running for her record 23rd term in Congress in the November midterms.
