Outgoing Republican Rep. Thomas Massie (Ky.) warned that his impeachment resolution against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is “much gentler” than what Democrats plan when they take over Congress in January.

“My Hegseth impeachment resolution is a much gentler version of what’s coming when Dem’s control Congress,” Massie wrote in a post on Twitter. “They’ll have hearings & trials.”

Democrats secured historic wins in battleground states in Tuesday’s midterms, flipping both the House and Senate by huge margins.

The discussion surrounding Hegseth comes as he has emerged as the fall guy for Republicans’ shellacking in the midterms. The defense secretary is now the focus of a bipartisan push for impeachment over the administration’s handling of the war in Iran and other military conflicts.

But Trump said he is not considering replacing Hegseth, adding, “he’s doing a very good job.”

Massie told CNN Wednesday that he plans to trigger an impeachment vote against Hegseth when Congress returns next week. Multiple GOP sources said they expect the measure to pass.

On Thursday, Massie warned Trump that the time to get rid of Hegseth is now, while Republicans control the Senate.

“If Trump’s going to replace appointees like Hegseth, he should do it while he can still get the replacements confirmed in the Senate,” the lawmaker wrote.
