Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice, is resigning, Fox News reports.

Dhillon’s resignation comes days after Trump’s Republican Party was shellacked in Tuesday’s midterms, resulting in the party losing the House and Senate.

Dhillon, a prominent election denier, took over the DOJ’s civil rights division in April 2025 and quickly reshaped it, shifting its traditional mission to align with Trump and MAGA policy priorities and culture war issues.

She also tried to sow distrust in the recently concluded midterm elections by defending the administration’s attempts to push debunked claims about noncitizen voting and deploying a record number of election monitors to polling places.
