The head of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Matt Schlapp suggested on Thursday that banning abortions is the solution to the racist ‘great replacement theory.’
Schlapp told reporters outside the CPAC conference in Budapest, Hungary that banning abortions nationwide in the U.S is a good “first step” in solving the country’s immigration problem.
“I am very hopeful in America that we will give the right to life to our unborn children,” Schlapp said, according to Vice.
“If you say there is a population problem in a country, but you’re killing millions of your own people through legalized abortion every year, if that were to be reduced, some of that problem is solved,” Schlapp added. “You have millions of people who can take many of these jobs. How come no one brings that up? If you’re worried about this quote-unquote replacement, why don’t we start there? Start with allowing our own people to live.”
The racist great replacement theory which is being embraced by some in the mainstream Republican Party, claims that an intentional effort is underway to replace white American voters with people of color through immigration.
The white nationalist who murdered ten Black people at a Tops Supermarket in Buffalo N.Y on Saturday cited the theory as motivation for the killings.
However, Schlapp dismissed the fact that the theory had anything to with Saturday’s massacre, telling reporters: “Clearly they were very troubled and I think it is a mistake to jump to some kind of philosophy or journal entry for us to give some sort of political answer in our society.”
He also complained that the media was being unfair to Fox News host Tucker Carlson by linking him to the shooting even though he has done more than anyone to popularized the racist theory in the U.S. According to the New York Times, Carlson promoted the theory more than 400 times on his show prior to Saturday’s shooting.
