Dem. senator slams Republicans for mocking his car: "What a bunch of jacka‑‑es"

Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) slammed Republicans for mocking the choice of vehicle he uses to get around Washington DC.

“What a bunch of jackasses,” Tester told Huffpost.

The comment was in response to a press release from the National Republican Senatorial Committee that referred to the news that Tester drives a red Toyota Prius as a “bombshell.”

Tester wrote in his memoir in 2020 that he bought the car to get around Washington and it is not the only vehicle he owns.

“I’ve got an ’86 Chevy. I got a 2018 GMC. I got a 2018 Honda Ridgeline. I’ve got a Celica. I’ve got a Peterbilt. I’ve got a ’67 International truck. I’ve got a ’96 International truck. I’ve got a ’78 GMC. Want me to keep going?” he told HuffPost.

“I’m gonna spend $10,000 this week on diesel filling my bulk tanks that I use for planting my crop in the ground. Does that make it OK now?” he added sarcastically.

Tester, a third-generation Montana farmer, is one of the most vulnerable Senate Democrats up for re-election in 2024. He is facing Republican Tim Sheehy, who moved to the state less than a decade ago.

Tester has repeatedly called out Sheehy for having relatively new Montana roots.

In a recent post on X, Tester said, “I have farm equipment that’s been in Montana longer than Tim Sheehy.”
