Elon Musk shares meme on Twitter with image of a Nazi soldier.

Twitter’s owner Elon Musk posted a meme with a Nazi soldier on Monday morning to his more than 100 million followers.

“How times have changed,” Musk wrote.

The photo shows a German Wehrmacht soldier with a cage of carrier pigeons, according to Getty Images. Carrier pigeons were used to relay messages on the western front during Germany’s invasion of France in World War II.

The image was edited with a small number ‘3’ and the caption “three unread messages.”

The meme comes days after Musk closed his $44 billion deal to purchase Twitter and has since gone about making sweeping changes to the platform, such as selling verification marks for $8 and firing nearly 50 percent of the company’s employees, including those responsible for countering misinformation.

Musk also weighed in on the 2022 midterms, telling his followers to vote for Republicans, despite saying months ago that Twitter must be “politically neutral” to deserve public trust.

“To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, therefore I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic,” Musk wrote on Monday.
