Ex-Memphis cop texts photo of Tyre Nichols after beating.

A former Memphis police officer took a photo of Tyre Nichols after he was beaten and sent it to multiple people.

According to a Memphis Police Department document obtained by USA Today, Demetrius Haley took a photo of Nichols while he was handcuffed and leaning against the side of the police car and texted it to at least five people including one civilian employee of the department, two MPD officers, and one female acquaintance. A sixth person also received the photograph as well.

The document was sent by Memphis Chief of Police Cerelyn Davis to the Tennessee Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission to have Haley and former officers Tadarrius Bean, Justin Smith, Desmond Mills, and Emmitt Martin III decertified.

Body cam video released by Memphis Police Department last month shows an officer appearing to take photos of Nichols after he was beaten, which is a violation of MPD policy that prohibits officers from using personal cell phones while conducting official police business according to The Hill.

All five officers involved in Nichols’ fatal beating were fired and have been indicted on multiple criminal charges, including second-degree murder.

Six officers have been fired from the department so far. The other officer, Preston Hemphill, has not been charged with a crime.
