Florida Democrat is a ‘top contender’ to lead FEMA under Trump.

Democratic lawmaker plans to support House Republicans' bill to help Israel by cutting IRS budget.

Donald Trump is reportedly considering Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) to lead the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in his second administration.

According to CNN Moskowitz is a ‘top contender’ for the role citing ‘two people with knowledge of the president-elect’s consideration.’

It’s unclear whether the congressman and Trump have met to discuss the possibility of leading FEMA. But, several people described the Democrat as a “strong candidate to get the post”, CNN reports.

Moskowitz has been critical of Trump in the past, but has since taken a more friendlier tone than some of his Democratic colleagues since the November election.

He was quick to offer praise on social media when Trump selected Susie Wiles as chief of staff. Moskowitz describing her as “brilliant, tough [and] strategic.” He was also the first Democrat to join the Trump-backed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) caucus in Congress.

Moskowitz is also no stranger to to working under Republicans.

Under Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Moskowitz spent two years as the director of Emergency Management, leading the state recovery for Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 storm that tore through the Panhandle in 2018, as well as the state’s Covid-19 response.

If Moskowitz is appointed to the position, he would need to vacate his House seat, a relief to House Republicans who are facing a slim majority in the next Congress made worse by Trump appointing House Republicans to serve in his administration

Moskowitz’s district is seen as a solidly Democratic, but has grown more competitive in recent elections. Moskowitz won it by about 5 points in the November election.
