Fox News issued an apology on Friday after the network falsely claim Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas had died.
During the show, The Faulkner Focus, on Friday the network ran an in memoriam segment honoring prominent figures who passed away in 2023.
Included in the tribute was Thomas, a three-time MLB All-Star, next to the graphic: “Frank Thomas: 1968 — 2023”.
This was news to Thomas who is still very much alive.
Thomas took to social media to confirm he is alive and slammed the network for their “irresponsible’ reporting.
“Ladies and Gentlemen I’m very sorry my ex employer Fox would be this irresponsible on National TV this morning,” Thomas wrote. “Yes I’m alive and doing well. This blows my mind also.”
Fox News later issued an on-air correction, telling their viewers that Thomas is alive and they confused him for another pro baseball player of the same name who died in January.
“We misidentified Frank Thomas, the three-time All-Star for the Pittsburgh Pirates,” anchor Julie Banderas said. “The Frank Thomas we showed you unfortunately was also a former pro baseball. He is very much alive. We apologize for that mistake.”
