Fox News host Dagen McDowell is urging Republicans to focus on immigration heading into the November presidential election because the economy is doing “good”.
McDowell’s comment comes on the heels of another strong jobs report showing the U.S. added 353,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate staying at 3.7%. Additionally, the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500 index set record highs in recent weeks.
With the strong economy, McDowell believes it is no longer a winning issue for Republicans and advised the party to focus on immigration while warning the RNC to change their messaging on the economy.
“The Republicans should be very careful about the messaging on the economy, immigration number one issue in Iowa and New Hampshire. I argue, because the economy is receding in importance among the voters because it’s good, stock market at a record high,” McDowell said in a clip by Mediaite.
“This in the monthly jobs report, 4.5% annual wage increases,” she added. “Your wages are going up at 4.5%. That is extra spending money. That’s how you benefit from inflation. And people are out spending. And the messaging from the RNC has been way off base.”
