A Republican candidate running for governor of Michigan opposes abortion in all cases including rape because the baby could one day become president.
Garrett Soldano told “Real America’s Voice” on Monday about “a great personal story from one of my mentors” who recently learned that his mother was “gang-raped in a subway station by five guys” but was brave enough to give birth and later gave him up for adoption.
“It kind of like tore out his heart when he found that out, but then he started to really appreciate and understand what his birth mother went through,” Soldano said. “She had the courage to deliver him. And he has helped thousands of people be better versions of themselves.”
“And so what we must start to focus on is not only the DNA when it’s created, but, however, how about we start inspiring women in the culture to let them understand how heroic they are,” he continued while April Moss nods in agreement. “God put them in this moment. And they don’t know, that little baby inside them may be the next president, may be the next person who changes humanity.”
Soldano says society should start to create a culture of inspiring rape victims to give birth to their rapist’s child because we must “always protect that [fetal] DNA and allow it to have a voice.”
Ron Owens, the political director for the re-election campaign of current Democratic Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer condemned Soldano remarks in a statement on Twitter writing: “Absolutely disgusting and dangerous comments from GOP gubernatorial candidate Garrett Soldano. Unfortunately, he’s not the only one with extreme views like this — every candidate in the GOP primary has said they will undermine a woman’s right to choose.”
Soldano advertises himself as a “proud Catholic” on his campaign website and is making the “right to life” one of his top campaign issues.
“I believe that it is our duty to protect the God-given right of all of our children. It is our duty to fight for those who can not fight for themselves,” his website says. “As Governor of Michigan, I will do everything in my power to protect life and push back against the abortion lobby in Lansing and President Biden’s radical anti-life agenda.”
