GOP lawmaker says he will not support a border deal because it would help Biden politically.

GOP rep calls Paul Ryan a 'piece of garbage' for criticizing Trump

Rep. Troy Nehls (R-Texas), one of Donald Trump’s most vocal supporters in the House said he will not be supporting any border deal, in part to play politics.

Nehls said the quiet part out loud in a CNN interview Wednesday when he admitted that he has no plans to support any border deal right now because it could benefit President Joe Biden in November.

“Let me tell you, I’m not willing to do too damn much right now to help a Democrat and to help Joe Biden’s approval rating,” Nehls told CNN. “I will not help the Democrats try to improve this man’s dismal approval ratings. I’m not going to do it.”

“Why would I? Chuck Schumer has had HR 2 on his desk since July,” he added. “And he did nothing with it.”

Nehls’ comment comes as senators are working on a compromise deal to address border security and immigration. The potential deal is already facing pushback in the House even from some moderate Republicans.

Rep. Nick LaLota (R-N.Y), who represents a district Biden told CNN that the package under discussion in the Senate “was too weak”.

This is not the first time Nehls has said the quiet part out loud.

Last month, he admitted twice that House Republicans push to impeach Biden is motivated by their need to help get Donald Trump re-elected.

“All I can say is Donald J. Trump 2024 baby,” Nehls told a Rolling Stone reporter when asked what he hopes to gain from a Biden impeachment inquiry.

Nehls also told USA Today that if twice-impeached former President Trump ends up as the 2024 Republican nominee, Biden’s impeachment would give Trump “a little bit of ammo to fire back” in the general election.
