Rep. Bob Good (R-Va.) the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus argued Monday that a government shutdown is preferable to working with Democrats.
In an interview with Fox Business, Good argued that the “Biden-Pelosi -Schumer regime” spending levels and policies are still in place and shutting down the government would not be so bad.
“Nothing’s changed in the 14 months since Republicans have had control,” Good said. “At least we’ve slowed things down. At least we fought over overspending. At least we’ve not made things worse. But the more this government does, the worse it is for the American people. We shouldn’t be joining hands with Democrats just to show we can govern, or we can get things done, no matter how harmful to the American people.”
“Even if that leads to a partial government shutdown?” host David Asman asked.
“While a government shutdown is not ideal, it’s not the worst thing,” Good responded.
On March 1, funding for the departments of Agriculture, Energy, House and Urban Development, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs, and other programs, will run out.
Shutting down the Agriculture Department would threaten critical food aid programs for women and children and block loans for farmers, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) warned. Shutting down the Transportation Department could increase the risk of travel delays and safety by freezing the training of air traffic controllers and halting investigations.
