GOP Rep. lashes out after losing her seat: “The RED WAVE did not happen”

Texas Republican Rep. Mayra Flores lashed out on Tuesday after she lost her re-election bid five months after winning a special election in Texas 34th congressional district.

“The RED WAVE did not happen. Republicans and Independents stayed home,” Flores said on Twitter. “DO NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THE RESULTS IF YOU DID NOT DO YOUR PART!”

Flores lost her re-election bid to Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez.

Earlier on Tuesday Flores signalled she was confident of victory in the race by tweeting a photo of a ‘red wave’ and the caption “TODAY’S FORECAST”

Flores flipped the seat in June in a special election to finish the term of Democratic congressman Rep. Filemon Vela. Vela resigned from Congress in March to work for a lobbying firm.

The race drew national attention since it was the first time a Republican had won the seat in a century. After Flores’ victory, Elon Musk announced he voted for her in the election, “first time I ever voted Republican,” he said.

“Massive red wave in 2022,” Musk added.
