Top Trump White House official calls the former president a "loser" after midterm losses.

Alyssa Farrah Griffin, the former Communications Director in the Trump White House called the former president a “loser” after several candidates he endorsed failed in the midterm elections.

“This is not an Obama-style shellacking,” Griffin said about Republicans’ underwhelming performance. “This is the time that the Republican Party needs to ask themselves, are they going to continue to nominate poor-quality candidates to appease Donald Trump?”

Griffin specifically highlighted far-right MAGA candidate Don Buldoc’s loss to Democrat Sen. Maggie Hassan in New Hampshire. Before Bolduc won the Republican primary, Hassan was seen as the most vulnerable Democrat up for re-election this midterm cycle. Hassan ended up comfortably winning re-election.

“If you want the Republican Party to thrive, we’ve got to just finally speak out and say, ‘this man is a loser,'”Griffin said, referring to Trump. ” He lost 2020, he’s about to–you know, he’s losing a seat that is winnable this time, in time towards looking what the future might look like.”

Another Trump aide, former deputy White House press secretary, Sarah Matthews also blamed Trump for Republicans subpar performance in a favorable political environment.

“I think last night was the biggest indicator that Donald Trump should not be the Republican nominee in 2024. He cost Republicans winnable seats by boosting poor quality candidates,” Matthews told CNN.

“You have record inflation, increased fears over crime, the worst border crisis in history, an unpopular president and Republican performance was still underwhelming,” she added. “And that was in large part due to the candidates that Trump backed. They weren’t up to quality. I think this is lessons learned for Republicans that a, Trump is not a national winner, and, b, candidate quality matters.”
