In bizarre speech on the Senate floor Tuesday against abortion rights, Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) compared women to sea turtles and eagles.
“Why do we have laws in place that protect the eggs of a sea turtle or the eggs of eagles?” Daines said. “Because when you destroy an egg, you’re killing a pre-born baby sea turtle or a pre-born baby eagle. Yet when it comes to a pre-born human baby rather than a sea turtle, that baby will be stripped of all protections in all 50 states under the Democrats’ bill we will be voting on tomorrow.”
Its worth noting that sea turtles and eagles are endangered species while humans are not.
If that wasn’t stupid enough Daines went on Twitter to reiterate the key point of his idiotic speech, adding “is that the America the Left wants.”
The speech comes before the Senate is set to vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, a bill that would protect abortion rights nationwide as the US Supreme Court is expected to overturn Roe v Wade.
The bill requires 60 votes to pass in the Senate and will likely fail. Meanwhile, Republicans are eyeing a bill to ban abortions across the country if they take back control of Congress after this year’s midterms.
