Hunter Biden said House Republicans have “no shame” amid their numerous ongoing investigations of him.
Biden appeared outside Capitol to make a public statement instead of being deposed by House Republicans on Wednesday. Biden wants to testify in public but House Republicans insist that his testimony be behind closed doors.
“No matter how many times it is debunked, they continue to insist that my father’s support of Ukraine against Russia is the result of a nonexistent bribe,” Biden said, according to The Hill. “They displayed naked photos of me during an Oversight hearing. And they have taken the light of my dad’s love, the light of my dad’s love for me, and presented it as darkness. They have no shame.”
Biden was referring to a July hearing in which Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) showed nude photos of him.
Biden’s comments come as House Republicans appear set to formalize an impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden despite lacking evidence linking him to his son’s alleged wrongdoing.
“In the depths of my addiction, I was extremely irresponsible with my finances. But to suggest that is grounds for an impeachment inquiry is beyond the absurd. It’s shameless,” Hunter said Wednesday.
The White House dismissed the impeachment inquiry as a “waste of everyone’s time.”
“This baseless stunt is not rooted in facts or reality, but in extreme House Republicans’ shameless desire to abuse their power to smear President Biden. Fox News already reported that the only reason they’re having this vote is to ‘put a GOP win on the table for the base,’ which is sad, pathetic, and a waste of everyone’s time,” Ian Sams, White House spokesman for oversight, said in a statement.
