House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) claimed President Joe Biden “irreparably damage” trust in the justice system by pardoning Hunter Biden, despite spending years undermining the justice system for Donald Trump.
On Sunday, President Biden issued a “full and unconditional pardon,” to Hunter covering alleged offenses he committed “from January 1, 2014 through December 1, 2024.”
“I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice — and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further. I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision,” Biden said in his statement.
“President Biden insisted many times he would never pardon his own son for his serious crimes,” Johnson posted on X on Monday morning.
“But last night he suddenly granted a ‘Full and Unconditional Pardon’ for any and all offenses that Hunter committed for more than a decade! Trust in our justice system has been almost irreparably damaged by the Bidens and their use and abuse of it,” he continued. “Real reform cannot begin soon enough!”
Johnson and congressional Republicans have spent years defending Trump against allegations of serious crimes by attacking and undermining the Justice system.
In fact, Johnson appeared outside a New York courthouse where Trump was on trial to amplify the former and future president’s defense.
Just outside the courthouse, Johnson railed against the federal and state legal systems calling them “corrupt” and dismissed serious charges as “ridiculous prosecution that is not about justice.”
