Sen Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) said that he would consider a presidential run in 2024 following his announcement that he would not be running for reelection to the Senate.
“I will do anything I can to help my country, and you’re saying, ‘Does that mean you would consider it?’ Absolutely,” Manchin said on ‘Meet The Press’ Wednesday when asked if he is considering running for the White House.
“Every American should consider it if they’re in a position to help save the country,” he added. “I think we are on the wrong course.”
Manchin said that he is “absolutely scared to death” of a second Trump term because “we might lose Democracy as we know it.” But he is also worried that Biden may have gone too far to left.
“I’m afraid that Joe Biden’s been pushed too far to the left. Can he come back? We’ll see,” Manchin said. “But the bottom line is that’s not the Joe Biden that we thought was being elected.”
Manchin announced last week that he would not be seeking reelection to the Senate in the deeply red state of West Virginia, saying instead he plans to travel the country and speak out “to see if there’s an interest in creating a movement to mobilize the middle and bring Americans together.”
