Democrat Katie Hobbs is projected to defeat Trump-backed Kari Lake in the Arizona gubernatorial race.
Hobbs’ victory is a rebuke of Lake, a prominent election denier who has promoted Donald Trump’s false claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential election and even suggested that there might have been fraud in her failed bid for governor.
After several outlets projected that Hobbs would win the election, Lake tweeted: “Arizonans know BS when they see it.”
Hobbs, who ran a low-key campaign, said in a statement on Monday night that she is “honored to have been selected to serve as the next Governor of Arizona.”
“I want to thank the voters for entrusting me with this immense responsibility. It is truly an honor of a lifetime, and I will do everything in my power to make you proud,” she added, according to NBC News.
