Former Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger said a member of his family sent him a letter “disowning” him because he lost the trust of Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Kinzinger wrote about the incident in his new book Renegade, which he previewed on CNN’s AC360 Monday evening.
“So, I had family that sent a certified letter disowning me,” Kinzinger said. “They said I’ve lost the trust of great men like Sean Hannity, which is funny, but they believe that. They said I was a member of the devil’s army.”
Kinzinger left Congress after his frequent criticisms of former President Donald Trump’s actions drew the ire of members of the Republican party base.
Asked by CNN’s Anderson Cooper if he is still a Republican, Kinzinger responded: “It’s a tough question. I do only in that because I don’t wanna give up on that fight. And this country needs two healthy parties, a healthy Democratic Party and a healthy Republican. So, I’m not gonna give up that title.”
However, if the 2024 election ends up being a rematch between Trump and President Biden, Kinzinger said he would cast his vote for Biden because a second Trump term would be “authoritarianism.”
