Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, says people are “inspired” by her leadership of the Republican National Committee (RNC) and will be more willing to open their wallets.
“I think that the change in leadership at the RNC has really inspired a lot of people to give. This past weekend we had our best fundraising weekend since 2020,” Trump said during an appearance on Rob Schmitt Tonight when asked how she plans to secure more donations to the RNC.
The RNC has been struggling to raise money under the previous leadership of Ronna McDaniel. Recent Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings show the Republican Party’s governing body had just $8 million in the bank and $1 million in debt.
Lara Trump was elected co-chair of the RNC last week while Michael Whatley, a longtime Trump supporter and election denier, was elected chair.
Since then, there has been several changes at the RNC, including firing dozens of staffers and creating what they call an “election integrity division” to oversee elections across the country. The new division is also being led by an election denier.
“People understand, this is a must-win election and I think they’re very confident in the team we now have between myself as co-chair and Michael Whatley as chairman,” Trump told Schmitt.
“People understand what is at stake now so that money is going to start coming back in,” she added. “We do have to catch up, I believe we will and I believe it is because people are now inspired and they know this is a winning team.”
Prior to her election as co-chair, Trump said “every single penny” raised by the RNC will be spent on re-electing Donald Trump.
“Every single penny will go to the number one and the only job of the RNC. That is electing Donald J. Trump as president of the United States and saving this country. We have no time to waste. We’ve got to get to work. We’ve got a lot of money to raise and we need to ensure that every penny goes to those things that I just mentioned,” she said.
