A Fox News host pushed back on Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump’s claim that Democrats lost the presidential election because they engage in “constant mudslinging.”
Trump told Fox News’ Media Buzz host Howard Kurtz that Democrats were just hurling insults instead of addressing voters’ concerns leading up to the election.
“They got to a level of just insulting people and trying to harass people into voting for them,” she said, according to clip highlighted by The Daily Beast. “I think when they got to the point of constant mudslinging and not really talking about what they do for the American people, I think that’s what lost them the election.”
But, Kurtz pointed out that Donald Trump was the candidate engaging in personal attacks on his opponent, including questioning Vice President Kamala Harris’ race and calling her derogatory names.
“Couldn‘t Democrats say the same because during the campaign Trump called [Harris] ’dumb‘, cursed her at one point, and questioned her racial identity?” Kurtz asked.
Trump’s best defense was to basically argue that her father-in-law has always been a racist, sexist, bully.
“I think whenever you see Donald Trump say things like this, this is not out of character for him, this is who he’s always been,” she said.
“And I think it is pretty dumb to leave the border wide open and allow 20 million people to pour into our country illegally,” Trump continued echoing her father-in-law’s rhetoric. “And I think it is pretty dumb to do things like shutdown the Keystone XL pipeline.”
