Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert declared herself to be the winner of the election in Colorado’s 3rd congressional district despite the race being too close to call.
“We won! I am so thankful for all of your support, and I am so proud to be your Representative!” Boebert tweeted.
The announcement was accompanied by a video shot outside the Capitol building in which Boebert said she will be sworn in for her second term on Jan. 3, 2023, and “Republicans can finally turn Pelosi’s house back into the People’s House.”
Boebert’s announcement comes as the race is still characterized as “too close to call” and she has a lead of 551 votes over her Democratic opponent, businessman and former city council member Adam Frisch. Boebert’s lead suggests that the race is likely headed to an automatic recount.
In Colorado, a mandatory recount is triggered when the margin of votes between the winner and runner-up is at or below 0.5%. Boebert’s lead is currently at 0.16 percent.
