Low-income Pennsylvania Trump voter begs him not to cut benefits.

Lori Mosura, 55, a Pennsylvania woman who voted for President-elect Donald Trump is now begging him to not cut the entitlements programs that keep her and her family afloat.

Mosura is one of several residents of New Castle, Pennsylvania, the once Democratic bastion, who voted for Trump in the 2024 presidential election. Trump ended up winning New Castle by about 400 votes, which makes him the first Republican presidential candidate to do so in nearly 70 years.

“He is more attuned to the needs of everyone instead of just the rich,” Mosura, told The Washington Post in an interview. “I think he knows it’s the poor people that got him elected, so I think Trump is going to do more to help us.”

New Castle was once a booming industrial town, but has since fallen on hard times. According to The Post, more than 1 in 4 residents live in poverty and depend on benefits to keep them afloat.

Mosura receives $1,200 each month in food stamps and Social Security benefits but still struggle to make ends meet. She told The Post that she is worried about incoming Trump officials talk about reducing government spending and pleaded with Trump to not cut benefits.

“We helped get you [Trump] in office; please take care of us,” Mosura said. “Please don’t cut the things that help the most vulnerable.”

Though Trump has promised not to cut Social Security or Medicare, his “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) task force, led by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, has promised to cut more than $2 trillion from the federal budget. Experts have warned that would be impossible without cutting Social Security benefits, Medicare and Medicaid.

Additionally, Trump’s pick for White House budget director, Russell Vought, was a key architect of Project 2025, that demands steep cuts to programs such as food stamps, The Post noted.

New Castle residents who didn’t support Trump said their neighbors voted against their own self-interests in the election.

Tom Jones, 86, said he is already hearing from parishioners at his church that they are worried about spending cuts.

“My fear is, they will get rid of Obamacare, and mark my words, this will just be the beginning of their troubles,” Jones said. “I want to say, ‘I told you so.’ … These people who voted for him didn’t look at the big picture.”
