Some of Donald Trump’s die-hard supporters believe the ‘deep state’ is manipulating Trump Media stock to embarrass the former president, according to a report from The Washington Post.
Trump Media & Technology Group is now trading at $32 which is a far cry from the opening price of $70.90, which soared to a high of nearly $80 on March 26, the day it began publicly trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “DJT.”
Despite warnings from experts at the time that Trump Media stock is reminiscent of the meme stock craze, supporters of the former president bought in and are now blaming the ‘deep state’ because the cash isn’t rolling in.
“No [one’s] fine with it, but we are DJT now. The deep state is making their run at Trump … and us,” Chad Nedohin wrote on Truth Social in response to a user who asked why everyone was “acting like everything is fine.”
Carol Swain, a former political science professor at Vanderbilt University, turn conservative commentator also suspects the deep state is manipulating the stock, according to The Post.
“The people who hate Donald Trump would do anything to try to hurt him,” she said.
“There’s such an effort to destroy him and strip his wealth away, and so much glee about it. I would like to see him be a winner,” Swain added.
Todd Schlanger, an interior designer based in West Palm Beach, who reportedly invested about $20,000 so far, told The Post that the decline in share price is due to “stock manipulation” from an “organized effort” to make Trump look bad.
“It’s got to be political,” he said, from all the “liberals that are trying to knock it down.”
However, one user on Truth Social who said they were embarrassed to be so “deep in the red” is not buying the argument that the deep state is behind the stock’s collapse.
“I’m tired of blaming the deep state,” the user wrote.
“You would think that the ‘biggest political movement of all time’ would want to support the man leading it and get much better numbers than this,” the user added.
