Valentina Gomez, a controversial Republican candidate in the race for Missouri Secretary of State finished near the bottom of the pack in Tuesday’s primary contest.
Gomez finished sixth in the crowded field of eight candidates, receiving just 7.4% of the votes and failing to win a single county.
During the campaign Gomez regularly made national headlines due to her offensive statements about the LGBTQ community and Black people.
Earlier this year, she released a bizarre campaign video in which she told voters not to be “weak and gay” while jogging down the street in a bulletproof vest.
She also filmed herself burning a pile of LGBTQ-themed books she claims are “indoctrinating” children.
In June, Gomez released a video calling Juneteenth—the federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S.—”the most ratchet holiday in America” and told Black Americans to “get the fuck out of the country” if they don’t like it.
