More than two-thirds of Republican Sen. Susan Collins’ constituents in Maine do not think she deserves to be re-elected next year.
The University of New Hampshire survey shows that 71 percent of Mainers don’t think Collins deserves another term in the Senate, while 21 percent say she does. 8 percent are unsure or have no opinion.
Sixty-seven (67) percent of independents say the lawmaker should not be reelected; just 11 percent say she would return to DC, and 3 percent are unsure or have no opinion.
Also, 84 percent of Democrats and 57 percent of Republicans believe Collins should not be re-elected.
A spokesperson for Collins’ campaign told the Portland Press Herald that “it is absurd to be polling at this point in the cycle” and argued that the UNH polls have historically failed to predict Collins’ election results.
Still, Collins is the most vulnerable Republican heading in the 2026 midterm election cycle with a deeply unpopular Republican president and unilateral GOP control of Congress that has signalled an openness to cutting popular safety net programs to pay for Trump’s tax cuts.
The University of New Hampshire survey was conducted between April 17-21 among 2,850 Maine adults. The margin of error for the results is plus or minus 3.2 percent.
