Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) confessed on Thursday that the real goal of the House impeachment inquiry of President Joe Biden is to hurt Democrats in the 2024 presidential election.
“We are going to drag Biden and everyone who covered up his crimes through the headlines day after day, month after month, and prove to the country the entire Democrat party is corrupt and can’t be trusted,” Greene wrote on Twitter. “So no matter which candidate runs for president if they take Biden out, everyone will know the Democrat party is filled with liars and traitors. That, combined with Bidenomics’ destructive policies will cause Democrats to lose big.”
Greene also posted her statement to other social media platforms, including Truth Social where it was reposted by Donald Trump.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) announced Tuesday that he is directing committees in the House to launch a formal impeachment inquiry against Biden, without any evidence to support their claim that he profited off Hunter Biden’s business deal while serving as vice-president.
But, McCarthy was under increasing pressure from far right members of his conference to either move forward with the investigation or risk losing his job as speaker.
Greene, who filed articles of impeachment against Biden one day after his inauguration, reportedly met with Trump to brief him about House Republicans’ strategy to make the impeachment inquiry “long and excruciatingly painful” for Biden.
House Republicans pulled a similar stunt in 2015 with the congressional investigation into the Benghazi attacks. McCarthy himself admitted at the time they wanted to make Hillary Clinton unpopular to help Trump.
