Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called for President Joe Biden to be impeached for sending aid to Ukraine amid Russia’s unprovoked invasion of the country.
“Joe Biden will be impeached. Ukraine is NOT the 51st state!!! We are in over $34 TRILLION in debt, borders invaded daily by the thousands, and Americans have been poisoned in East Palestine. ENOUGH!!! IMPEACH BIDEN!!!” Greene wrote on Twitter Saturday with a clip of Biden’s comments from last April vowing to keep supporting Ukraine.
In 2022, the U.S. sent nearly $50 billion in aid to Ukraine which includes humanitarian, financial, and military support, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.
Greene’s Twitter post came days before Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine to meet with President Volodymr Zelenskyy and announced an additional $500 million in U.S. assistance, including shells for howitzers, anti-tank missiles, air surveillance radars and other military equipment and weapons.
Greene has been very vocal about not sending more aid to Ukraine amid the country’s ongoing war with Russia. However, a majority of the Republican conference in the House believes the U.S. should support Ukraine, but called for more oversight of funds being sent to the country.
It’s unlikely that the House will impeach Biden for sending aid to Ukraine. If they did, he will be exonerated by the Democratic majority in the Senate.
