Donald Trump’s former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn told a crowd of QAnon supporters on Saturday that the US should have a coup like the one in Myanmar.
Flynn was asked by an attendee at a QAnon conference in Dallas, Texas, this weekend: “I want to know why what happened in Myanmar can’t happen here.”
The crowd cheered after the question then Flynn responded, “no reason. I mean, it should happen here.”
Myanmar’s military overthrew the country’s democratically elected government on February 1, 2021 and arrested its leaders. The military said the coup was necessary due to allegations of voter fraud in the election, though it has not provided any evidence to support their claim, according to Media Matters.
The coup let to the deaths of over 800 Burmese people including at least 40 children.
Supporters of QAnon and other right wing groups have supported the coup saying the U.S. military should take similar action against President Joe Biden over false claims of voter fraud.
Flynn made a public show of taking the QAnon oath last year, and has since become a prominent figure in the QAnon movement. He pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about contacts with the Russian ambassador but was subsequently pardoned by Trump before he left office.
Followers of QAnon believe there is a “deep state” within the US government that is controlled by a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles who drink the blood of babies. According to the conspiracy, the cabal is run by Democratic politicians and liberal celebrities, and Trump is the savior.
