New Trump State Department hire says ‘competent white men must be in charge for things to work.’

A viral post has resurfaced online from Darren Beattie, a new State Department official in the Trump administration, declaring that “competent white men must in charge” for things to work.

Beattie worked in the first Trump administration as a speechwriter before he was fired for speaking at a white nationalists conference.

On Sunday, Beattie was appointed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio to serve as undersecretary of state for public diplomacy at the State Department even though he was blatantly promoting white supremacist views months ago.

In a resurfaced post from October, Beattie wrote that, “Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work.”

“Unfortunately, our entire national ideology is predicated on coddling the feelings of women and minorities, and demoralizing competent white men,” he continued.

Beattie is also an election denier who has promoted conspiracy theories related to Jan. 6.

According to the State Department’s website Beattie’s job involves “lead[ing] America’s public diplomacy outreach, which includes messaging to counter terrorism and violent extremism.”

“The Under Secretary oversees the bureaus of Educational and Cultural Affairs and Global Public Affairs, and participates in foreign policy development,” the website adds.

Beattie’s hiring comes as the Trump administration is rolling back DEI programs—measures put in place to ensure that people of all backgrounds can thrive in organizations— in the federal agencies.
