Pence: Trump's indictment "sends a terrible message to the wider world"

Former Vice-President Mike Pence claimed on Sunday that the indictment of former President Donald Trump sends a “terrible” message to the rest of the world.

“As someone that has represented the United States on the world stage, as someone who was on the International Relations Committee for ten years, we’re the gold standard of justice in the world,” Pence said on ‘Meet the Press’

“And to see a former president of the United States be subject to an indictment by the administration of the current president, that he may well be facing again in the future, that sends a terrible message to the wider world,” he added.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges, including 31 counts of “willful retention of national defense information” relating to his alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Trump and his allies have claimed the charges are a political attack by the Biden administration and some candidates in the GOP primary have floated the possibility of pardoning Trump if they become president.

The Biden administration has rejected the claim the president had any involvement in the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith against Trump.
