Pennsylvania GOP county chair says Toomey was not elected to “do the right thing”

Pennsylvania GOP county chair says Toomey was not elected to "do the right thing"

The chair for the Washington County, Pa. GOP, Dave Ball blasted Sen. Pat Toomey for his vote to convict Donald Trump in the impeachment trial, saying Toomey was not sent to Washington to “do the right thing”.

“We did not send him there to vote his conscience,” Ball told CBS Pittsburgh. “We did not send him there to do the right thing, whatever he said he was doing. We sent him there to represent us, and we feel very strongly that he did not represent us.”

Toomey was one of seven GOP senators to vote to convict Donald Trump for inciting an insurrection at the Capitol on Jan. 6, making this the most bipartisan vote to convict a president, in history.

In a statement explaining his decision to convict Donald Trump on Saturday, Toomey said, the former President’s “betrayal of the Constitution and his oath of office required conviction.”

At least five GOP county committees in Pennsylvania, so far have voted to censure Toomey since his vote to convict.
