Failed Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) is requesting that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) pardon Donald Trump “for the good of the country” after the former president was found guilty of felony charges Thursday.
“Donald Trump is a serial liar, cheater, and philanderer, a six-time declarer of corporate bankruptcy, an instigator of insurrection, and a convicted felon who thrives on portraying himself as a victim,” Phillips wrote in a post on X. “@GovKathyHochul should pardon him for the good of the country.”
New York Rep. Nick LaLota (R) also requested a pardon from Gov. Hochul on Trump’s behalf.
A jury in Manhattan convicted Trump on all 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 election by paying hush money to an adult film star who said they had sex.
It is unlikely that Hochul will ever pardon Trump given that she praised the verdict.
“Today’s verdict reaffirms that no one is above the law,” Hochul said in a statement.
Since Trump was convicted of violating state law, he cannot pardon himself even if he wins the presidential election this November.
