Rand Paul: Manhattan DA "should be put in jail”

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) said Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg should be “put in jail” ahead of Donald Trump’s potential indictment on Tuesday.

“A Trump indictment would be a disgusting abuse of power. The DA should be put in jail,” Paul tweeted.

Trump announced on his Truth Social app over the weekend that he expects to be indicted on Tuesday in connection with a New York grand jury investigation into a 2016 hush money payment that he authorized to adult film star Stormy Daniels during the election.

Since then, Republicans have claimed the potential indictment of Trump is politically motivated.

Trump’s announcement of his possible indictment over the weekend included a call to his supporters to protest, prompting concerns he is inciting his supporters toward violence, similar to the days and weeks leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Police in New York City erected barricades outside the Manhattan Criminal Court and installed security cameras on light posts Monday ahead of Trump’s possible indictment.

Bragg also told his staff in an email that his office is coordinating with the New York City Police Department and the court to “ensure that any specific or credible threats against the office will be fully investigated and that the proper safeguards are in place so all 1,600 of us have a secure work environment.”
