Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C), the GOP lawmaker who wanted Donald Trump to declare “Marshall (sic) law” and stay in the White House after losing the 2020 election, dumped the former president for Nikki Haley.
In a statement on Twitter, Norman said he is “thrilled to…throw my support behind Nikki Haley for President in 2024.”
“We are at a pivotal point in our nation. While the Republican candidates, values, and messages have done very well here in South Carolina, that hasn’t been the case everywhere across our great nation,’ he said.
Norman, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, was endorsed by Trump in the 2022 midterms and is considered to be a top ally of the former president.
He voted not to certify the results of the 2020 election after Trump’s defeat and texted then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, days after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, urging him to tell the president to declare martial law and remain in power.
“Mark, in seeing what’s happening so quickly, and reading about the Dominion law suits attempting to stop any meaningful investigation we are at a point of no return in saving our Republic!! Our LAST HOPE is invoking Marshall [sic] Law!!! PLEASE URGE TO PRESIDENT TO DO SO!!” Norman wrote in a Jan. 17 text, according to Talking Points Memo.
Now, Norman is calling for new leadership.
“It’s time for a reset and a new chapter in national Republican politics, and there’s no better person to help write that new chapter than our former governor and my good friend, Nikki Haley!” he said on Wednesday.
