Republican lawmaker introduces resolution to award Trump the Congressional Gold Medal.

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) is leading a Republican effort in the House to award Donald Trump the Congressional Gold Medal amid the former president’s ongoing criminal trial in New York for allegedly falsifying business records to pay hush money to a porn star.

The resolution says the medal would be “in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency.”

It cited Trump’s meeting with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Un and the Abraham Accords

“The greatest of President Trump’s foreign policy achievements was that no wars were started while he was in office,” the bill added.

The resolution is backed by seven other Republicans — Deputy Whip Rep Guy Reschenthaler (Pa.), Lauren Boebert (Colo.), Andy Ogles (Tenn.), Randy Weber (Texas), Bob Good (Va.), Mary Miller (Ill.) and Mike Waltz (Fla.).

Previous recipients of the Congressional Gold Medal include Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, The Dalai Lama, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and the Tuskegee Airmen.

Even if the resolution passes in the House, it’s dead on arrival in the Senate where Democrats are in control.
