Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is demanding that Donald Trump take action to rein in Russian President Vladimir Putin following the latest attacks in Ukraine.
Over the weekend and early Monday, Russia launched a record number of drones and missiles at Ukraine killing more than two dozen Ukrainian civilians and injuring several others.
On Monday, Grassley called on Trump to “at least” consider putting sanctions on Russia in response to the deadly strikes.
“I’ve had enuf [sic] of Putin killing innocent ppl. Pres Trump Take action AT LEAST SANCTIONS,” wrote Grassley on X.
The attacks come amid U.S. and European allies’ efforts to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump lashed out at Putin on Sunday, calling him “absolutely CRAZY!” for “needlessly killing a lot of people”.
“I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into Cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.”
Asked about Trump’s comments, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismiss the US president’s remarks as “emotional overload.”
“We are really grateful to the Americans and to President Trump personally for their assistance in organizing and launching this negotiation process,” Peskov said, according to Reuters.
“This is a very crucial moment, which is associated, of course, with the emotional overload of everyone absolutely and with emotional reactions,” he added.
