Republican tells reporter who asked about election denial to ‘shut up’.

A group of House Republicans shouted at a reporters Tuesday evening for asking GOP speaker nominee Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) about his involvement in efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Johnson is the fourth nominee for speaker put forward by the Republicans and the second on Tuesday alone. Just after he won the nomination in a secret ballot behind closed doors, Johnson and some Republicans spoke to reporters.

At the press conference Johnson was asked by ABC News congressional reporter Rachel Scott about his effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

After the November 2020 presidential election, Johnson orchestrated an amicus brief signed by more than 100 House Republicans supporting a lawsuit from Texas asking the Supreme Court to invalidate then President-elect Joe Biden’s victories in key swing states.

The Supreme Court declined to hear the case.

“You led the effort to overturn the 2020 election results,” Scott asked Johnson at Tuesday’s press conference. “Do you…”

Republicans quickly cut her off. Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert said: “Oh God,” while Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) shouted: “Shut up, shut up!”.

Another member shouted: “Go away! Go away!”

Johnson only shook his head and said “next question”.
