Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr is selling bear merch on his campaign website after admitting to dumping the carcass of a bear cub in New York’s Central Park.
Kennedy’s campaign is selling a teddy bear sporting a white “Kennedy Sanahan 2024” T-shirt and a bow tie for $32.
“Cuddle up with the Kennedy Shanahan 2024 Teddy Bear, dressed in a campaign T-shirt. This adorable bear not only offers comfort but also spreads a message of hope and support for the Kennedy-Shanahan ticket, making it a perfect gift for supporters of all ages,” the campaign wrote.
The bear merch comes as Kennedy admitted to dumping a dead bear cub in Central Park back in 2014.
On Sunday, Kennedy posted a video to social media of him explaining to Roseanne Barr how he picked up the cub after a woman driving in front of him hit and killed the animal.
“So I pulled over and I picked up the bear and put him in the back of my van because I was going to skin the bear, and it was very good condition. And I was going to put the meat in my refrigerator,” Kennedy said in the video.
Kennedy explained that he was busy that day and didn’t have time to properly store the bear, so he and his friends instead dropped it in Central Park along with an old bike to make it appear as if the bear was hit by a cyclist.
“I wasn’t drinking, of course, but people were drinking with me who thought this was a good idea. And I said I had an old bike in my car that somebody asked me to get rid of. I said, ‘Let’s go put the bear in Central Park, and we’ll make it look like he got hit by a bike,” Kennedy said. “We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it or something.”
Kennedy was trying to get ahead of The New Yorker magazine who was set to break the story.
A photo obtained by The New Yorker shows Kennedy posing with the dead bear with his fingers inside its mouth and with a grimace across his face. The carcass was reportedly found by two women who were walking their dogs in the park the next day.
